HIPI stands for "Hoody's Internet Participation Interface".
This allows people to edit pages on this site, with new information, update old information and generally keep everything working. Any page with HIPI is able to be edited. Some pages have a non-editable section (eg the main/index page) but these are being phased out (eg the policy page) or are not suited to this type of dynamic pages (eg
nodes page).
How to Use
If you see a mistake, scroll to the bottom of the page. You should notice a link to "Edit". (You will need to be logged in first) This will bring up an editing window. There are
hcodes to allow some formatting. (eg
italics,
bold,
colours, as well as subsections, tables, lists, etc). Check the
hcodes page for more information.
If you would like to add a new page to the website, simply type it in, in the form
http://ddwireless.net/mynewpage (make sure you replace the "mynewpage" with the URL you wish to use!), or use the box provided on
the first page (/). You will then be given the choice to create it. Please choose a sensible address, it is like a title. Avoid spaces, please use underscores instead (Or you will get a %20 in the URL).
The HIPI system is now heirachal, using dashes, to do something like "broadsubject-narrowsubject-smalldetail" or similar. For example "
minitar", "
minitar-mnwapb" and "
minitar-mnwapb-configure". You will notice links to each of these pages from other pages. There is some intelligence here, it will not link pages that don't exist. If you need to make multiple pages simple put a -2 on the end of the URL and it will link automatically from the bottom of the first page, and back to the first page from the title of the second page.
An index of pages is available at
hipi-index. (Not all HIPI pages are listed in this index. The author of the HIPI page can choose with the Status). Please check to make sure you are not duplicating effort. I have noticed already there are several similar pages. Please also try and keep a consistent naming sceheme.
There is also a list at
hipi-root, as linked from the title, of all the top-level pages.
The URL name is not case sensitive, but is case preserving.
Status
The author/last editor can choose how secure the page is going to be:
Private: Only the author can view/edit it (and moderators)
Hidden: Not put onto any index (except the author's stats page, when viewed by the author) - must be logged in to view.
Members: Only logged-in members can view this page - it does appear in the member's only index.
Normal: Only on the member index, but anyone can view it.
Open: On the open index. Anyone can view it.
If one can view a page (and is logged in), one can edit that page. (I'm sure this is a good idea). At the moment only me (Hoody) is a "moderator", since I have access to the database through phpMyAdmin. I have yet to write code for other members to do moderation tasks...
Delete a page
If you wish a page to be deleted, simply edit and change the content
and title to a single dot (.). I will go through it eventually and delete all traces from the database. (If the data is simply old (instead of inappropriate) I might place a copy in an archive or something)
Move a page
If you discover something that needs to be renamed, there is currently no easy way to do this, other than to create a new HIPI page and copy and paste the data over. If you do this, change the text of the old page to just "[[newpagepage]]". This will cause a message to be displayed informing users of the change of URL.
Malicious Users?
Old versions of pages are not deleted (straight away) so if someone malicious gets in, it shouldn't be too hard to undo their changes. That's what the Report button and the "oldx" buttons are for. Older versions of pages stay in the database until I delete them manually; so don't be thinking one can destroy a page simply by editing a page 3 times.
Printing
I have made a printing CSS. If your browser supports CSS properly, please turn on "print backgrounds". Don't worry, most of the backgrounds are white or a very light grey. The titles have a black background with white text, which is why you need this on. (This is optimised for black and white printing, I don't have a colour printer so I don't care :)
